These things happen and I don’t really think anyone is to blame for this. But I kind of agree with NVidia in that this whole thing was probably just one big mix up that turned out poorly. NOT necessarily better… but more fascinating / interesting (at least to me).

BORDERLANDS 2 GOTY PATCHS PS3 SERIES

In fact I have been wanting to build a AMD box with a FX-8350 and a 7k series GPU just because… well… I generally find a lot of the technology AMD has to be more fascinating than what Intel/NVidia have at the moment. I understand enjoying seeing NVidia hurt a little over this, after all, I also WANT to see AMD succeed. It hasn’t been the first time we have seen this, and it certainly won’t be the last. These sorts of things happen from time to time.

All I am saying… it IS possible that this debacle was in fact all accidental and that none of the parties involved intended for this to happen. Sure, CD should have been testing on NVidia’s hardware to make sure the game engine would run okay on it, but maybe there were time constraints involved which did not allow them to do proper testing on the amount of hardware they wanted to. Or maybe they didn’t think the changes they made in the final build were going to affect performance as much as it did.

That maybe Crystal Dynamics in fact didn’t get the game to NVidia on time for them to optimize their drivers for it, but that it was also entirely unintentional. With all the flame war comments about payback being a bitch, and AMD sabotaging NVidia getting a hold of the game when it needed to, etc etc… has anyone considered that this might have just been an honest mix up? So you haven´t any argument that defends your words, and if someone looks like a “fanboy” here, probably this someone are you. Otherwise, nvidia supports Fermi cards (4xx/5xx) in the new drivers with new games yet, improving their performance, 3-4 years after their launch.

BORDERLANDS 2 GOTY PATCHS PS3 DRIVER

The disaster that AMD created with this game needs TWO patchs for their “features”, and a new driver from AMD to fix the memory leaks of these features, inestable performance (yes, with AMD hard too), fix the freezes of this game with hard no-AMD, etc.Ībout “support”, well, nvidia give it in the day zero to the users, in the worst case some days after the launch, like Tomb Raider, AMD months/years after (BF3, Dragon Age 2, Hitman, etc). The issues with this game is about the torpedoes that AMD introduces in every game that can (DOF, many effects with DirectCompute and “personal” implementation, contraints of performance with the bandwith, etc). The drivers needs them, but like other gpus needs the same thing (read the changelogs of the drivers). And a JIT compiler doesn´t need “updates” for every game. A JIT compiler solution may be more optimal than a hardwired oOo implementation. So you are saying crap about it because you don´t understand the thing at all. Kepler only “loses” the out of order hardware (something that the GCN arquitecture lacks) in the scheduler, and this task is made in the JIT compiler. The scheduler doesn´t have nothing with the warps selection to run.

Last week, Nvidia said it received the final Tomb Raider build only a few days in advance, and the final build "substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided." Once again, Nvidia expresses regret about the launch-day issues-and, once again, it blames Crystal Dynamics for not supplying the game in time. You can grab the GeForce 314.21 beta drivers from the Beta/Legacy Driver page of the website. Oh well nothing like a few mystery SLI profiles to spice up a driver release.

BORDERLANDS 2 GOTY PATCHS PS3 UPDATE

Crystal Dynamics released an update last week, and now, Nvidia has posted a new driver with bug fixes and optimizations of its own.Īccording to the official Nvidia blog, the GeForce 314.21 beta drivers "provide major gains in reliability and performance in the game – delivering an average of 45% and up to 60% performance improvements (as measured with GeForce GTX 680 at 1920×10×1600 resolutions)." The release highlights also mention "new SLI and 3D Vision profiles," but they don’t name any games, and I don’t see a link to long-form release notes with specifics anywhere. Happily, both Crystal Dynamics and Nvidia are on the case. Some folks with GeForce graphics cards had trouble playing Tomb Raider when the game came out earlier this month.
